There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Nicholas Singleton, 34 picks ahead of schedule.
That Brailsford pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Peter Woods at the 9th pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
In the 29th overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Akheem Mesidor in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nicholas Singleton in pick No. 74 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Gracen Halton a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Parker Brailsford in pick 148, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Eric Rivers in the 169th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Marlin Klein here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dalton Johnson at the 210th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
