There is reaching, and then there is Nyjalik Kelly at No. 152. The Cowboys jumped the board by 54 and dared it to prove them wrong.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Love.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 20 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Caden Curry well ahead of where he belonged. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tyreak Sapp at edge rusher with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
Nyjalik Kelly at slot 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They took Kaleb Elarms-Orr at par in pick No. 177, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Febechi Nwaiwu at No. 180 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Toriano Pride Jr. at the 218th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
