Somebody in No. 105 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Daylen Everette, the No. 81 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Payne reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omar Cooper Jr. at pick 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Daylen Everette in the 105th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Eli Raridon in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
VJ Payne at pick No. 186 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zane Durant is a better player than Round 6, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Seth McGowan slipping to the 193rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
