The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Ajani Cornelius, the No. 115 name on the board, sitting there at No. 207 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They are betting Walker proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Nick Emmanwori, who had no business lasting to pick 34. A minor itch, scratched.
Sai'vion Jones at the 61st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Walker this early at the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Elijah Arroyo still on the board at slot 104. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 9: Cody Simon for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 207 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jordan Hancock in the 221st overall pick, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Steal is underselling it; Woody Marks at No. 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
LaJohntay Wester in Round 7, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
