The real work happened on the phones. The Cowboys fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 1 slot with a little surplus value in Graham Barton. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Junior Colson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Patrick Paul in the 73rd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Trey Benson at par in Round 3, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamal Hadden in pick No. 174. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cornelius Johnson at slot 205. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kendall Milton at the 216th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Tatum Bethune at pick 233 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tayvion Robinson in the 244th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
