You build a draft on nights like this. Mike Washington Jr. had no business being available in slot 109, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Downs in Round 1, Pick 9. A minor need, but a need all the same.
In pick No. 29 they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omar Cooper Jr. at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christen Miller at pick 74 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a running back like Mike Washington Jr. reach No. 109 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Parker Brailsford was the payoff at slot 148. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in the 169th pick: Zxavian Harris for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Bryce Boettcher at the 176th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the 210th overall pick, with Dallen Bentley worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
