Nobody else had J.C. Davis anywhere near the 105th overall pick. The Giants did, by 35 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That Elarms-Orr pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Dillon Thieneman was the payoff at the 37th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into J.C. Davis at Round 4, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on DeMonte Capehart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Domani Jackson at slot 186. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Kaleb Elarms-Orr graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J'Mari Taylor. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
