When the story of this class is written, it opens with Garrett Nussmeier at Round 2, Pick 12, a reach of 37 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Royer.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 16 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on CJ Allen in No. 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Value said wait; Garrett Nussmeier in the Round 2 slot says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bryce Lance at pick No. 103 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Joe Royer in the 140th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Travis Burke in the 179th pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Tyren Montgomery was the payoff at pick 228. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 242 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
