The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D+.

The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Caden Curry at pick No. 87 regardless, 45 picks early.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Golday pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and running back. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Golday falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 11
In the 9th overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 42
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 48
D'Angelo Ponds at Round 3, Pick 10 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 132
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Caden Curry. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 62
A surprising call. With quarterback and running back still to address, they spent the 92nd pick on Jake Golday, an edge rusher they were not short of.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Kamari Ramsey · S · rank 78
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Ramsey at pick No. 94. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 111
No drama and no debate, Tacario Davis went about where he belonged in pick No. 112. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 147
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah World at Round 4, Pick 30, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Trey Moore · LB-EDGE · rank 184
Trey Moore at slot 152 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 193
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeff Caldwell a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Tanner Koziol · TE · rank 167
Tanner Koziol at pick 180 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
