Green Bay Packers

The phones sank the Packers this weekend: C.

The Packers torched the value chart for Austin Stogner, taking him 103 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A mixed bag that lands at C.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The Bishop pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Green.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 26
In pick 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in No. 41, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Renardo Green · S · rank 76
They read the board right and Renardo Green was the payoff at pick No. 88. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 108
A conviction pick on Will Shipley at the 91st pick that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves edge rusher and quarterback untouched.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 121
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Newton in the 124th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Anthony Gould · WR · rank 142
Anthony Gould in the 126th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 172
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at No. 169, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 221
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for JD Bertrand. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 234
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevin Wallace a notch or two before his time. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Austin Stogner · TE · rank 348
Austin Stogner in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Evan Anderson · DL · rank 283
They reached into another round for Evan Anderson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
