There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Browns started one anyway for Deven Eastern, 37 picks ahead of schedule.
On value alone, Lew makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a two-high chess piece. A real need, handled.
In No. 24 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Denzel Boston come to them and pounced at pick 41. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
D'Angelo Ponds in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Connor Lew at pick No. 107 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Oscar Delp at the 146th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kaytron Allen at slot 149 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Eric McAlister went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jimmy Rolder at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Deven Eastern. The roster fit checks out.
