The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Eyabi Okie-Anoma, taking him 40 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 41, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at No. 81, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dominick Puni at pick 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Zak Zinter at par in the 102nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 26 on James Williams with tight end unsolved.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dylan Laube at the 169th pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Ryan Flournoy at slot 202 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Garret Greenfield. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eyabi Okie-Anoma. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Austin Reed in the 255th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
