The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Amegadjie. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
If Means pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Taliese Fuaga in Round 2, Pick 2 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 103 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 137 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Tykee Smith was still sitting there in pick 180, and they pounced on premier safety value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dwight McGlothern at the 193rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Bub Means in the 231st overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
