This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Germie Bernard, the No. 63 name on the board, stolen at the 90th pick. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the World reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. A real need, handled.
In pick 30 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
A tidy little value on Emmanuel Pregnon in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow A.J. Haulcy was still sitting there in No. 75, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Malachi Fields is a better player than pick No. 87 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Germie Bernard still on the board at Round 3, Pick 26. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jalen Farmer at slot 94 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Isaiah World at the 130th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Drew Allar at Round 5, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Thaddeus Dixon at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They went early on Xavier Nwankpa in the 238th pick, and the value did not follow. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
