The Aidan Hubbard pick is the one that will follow the Bears into the fall. They took him 116 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They banked enough surplus on Trost to cover a lot of smaller sins. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece. More want than need.
Value said wait; Dani Dennis-Sutton in Round 2, Pick 25 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jacob Rodriguez at slot 60. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Bryce Lance at par in pick 89, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Charles Demmings, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Skyler Gill-Howard in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Keagen Trost still on the board at the 210th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Zavion Thomas, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Andre Fuller in No. 241 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Aidan Hubbard in pick 247, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
