The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Vincent Anthony Jr., 81 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They banked enough surplus on Golday to cover a lot of smaller sins. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a green-dot type in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 28th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Caleb Banks in pick No. 58 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Keionte Scott in pick 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Jake Golday at No. 92 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trey Moore at Round 5, Pick 6 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They let Eli Raridon come to them and pounced at slot 149. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kaytron Allen at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at pick No. 160 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Keagen Trost in No. 177 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah Nwokobia in the 211th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
