Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Kamal Hadden, the No. 168 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 210. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Spending an early pick on linebacker with wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
If Chop Robinson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 23 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick 50 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 120th pick on Cedric Gray with wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
A slide stopped in No. 171, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
