New England Patriots

Larceny in the Round 4 slot lands the Patriots a B-, Ramsey and all.

You build a draft on nights like this. Kamari Ramsey had no business being available in the 131st pick, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

They are betting Black proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Denzel Boston · WR · rank 31
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Gennings Dunker · OG · rank 52
Gennings Dunker at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 64
They barely believed it either: Jake Golday still on the board at pick No. 95. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 149
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mason Reiger in the 125th pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Kamari Ramsey · S · rank 78
They will replay Kamari Ramsey at No. 131 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Tanner Koziol · TE · rank 167
Tanner Koziol in pick 171 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 226
Kaelon Black at the 191st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · Landon Robinson · DT · rank 219
They reached a country mile for Landon Robinson at slot 198, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · VJ Payne · S · rank 200
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on VJ Payne. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 228
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 6, Pick 31 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 267
A real head-scratcher, Logan Taylor in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
