The Bears did not so much draft Caden Curry as overpay for him, 43 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The McNeil-Warren steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 57. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 60 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Caden Curry. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ja'Kobi Lane at the 107th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Julian Neal come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 29. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Zxavian Harris at the 146th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
