The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: CJ Allen, the No. 32 name on the board, in pick 63.
The Spears-Jennings reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: CJ Allen still on the board at the 63rd overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Domonique Orange all the way to Round 3, Pick 31, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Brian Parker II was the payoff at slot 125. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tacario Davis at the 131st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Fair-plus on Tanner Koziol, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr slid further than he should have, and pick No. 191 is lovely value for the linebacker. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A real head-scratcher, Landon Robinson in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Kaelon Black at pick No. 202, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Robert Spears-Jennings at slot 212 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in the Round 7 slot, with Kaden Wetjen worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
