Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots went begging. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The Smith pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in the 107th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots for later.
Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Jarrian Jones in pick No. 141, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 35: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Caedan Wallace in the 210th pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
