The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: DJ James, the No. 53 name on the board, in pick No. 88.
They will need McCormick to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Packers indulged a want in Taylor-Demerson while a need in edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Javon Bullard at pick 49 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 26 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay DJ James at pick No. 88 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the Round 3 slot leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots for later.
No edge and no loss on Ray Davis in the 107th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Mason McCormick at No. 115, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Beaux Limmer at par in the 126th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at slot 139. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tyler Davis in pick 141 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at Round 5, Pick 33, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for JD Bertrand. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jordan Magee in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Circle this one: Garret Greenfield at the 245th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Frank Gore Jr. at No. 255 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
