The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Luke McCaffrey slide 23 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Bortolini pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on T'Vondre Sweat in the 50th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Junior Colson at pick 53 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Theo Johnson in No. 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nehemiah Pritchett at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Jaden Crumedy at Round 6, Pick 35 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
