When a board-topper like KeAndre Lambert-Smith slides to the 238th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They will need Burch to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at slot 61. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Jordan Burch at the 79th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Terrance Ferguson at pick 148 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 207th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: KeAndre Lambert-Smith at pick No. 238 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
LaJohntay Wester in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
