Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Max Iheanachor got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at No. 92. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In slot 12 they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.29 · Pick 29 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
In pick 29 they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Colton Hood · CB · rank 25
They let Colton Hood come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 8. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 74 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 46
Steal is underselling it; Max Iheanachor at No. 92 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Domonique Orange · DT · rank 76
Domonique Orange at the 109th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Circle this one: Ted Hurst at the 112th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.8 · Pick 148 · CJ Daniels · WR · rank 143
CJ Daniels in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Kaytron Allen · RB · rank 147
Kaytron Allen at the 152nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.29 · Pick 169 · Caleb Douglas · WR · rank 165
A clean, defensible pick in pick 169 with a little surplus value in Caleb Douglas. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.36 · Pick 176 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 176
A straight-up fair deal on Domani Jackson at No. 176, value and slot in agreement. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.29 · Pick 210 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 173
The board fumbled Aamil Wagner all the way to Round 6, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
