When a board-topper like Bo Nix slides to pick 103, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in pick No. 34, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 68th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Bo Nix at No. 103 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 5, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Jha'Quan Jackson at par in the 180th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ro Torrence in the Round 6 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint still on the board at pick No. 231. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
