Thirty-one other rooms let Jacob Rodriguez slide, and the Bengals were the ones holding the card at pick 72. Highway robbery. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Spears-Jennings left real value on the table behind him.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 41 with a little surplus value in Omar Cooper Jr.. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 72 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
