They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Caden Curry, 58 picks early at pick 74.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while quarterback went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Davis. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 38, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Fair-plus on Gennings Dunker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Caden Curry in No. 74 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tyreak Sapp at edge rusher with quarterback open.
Malachi Fields slipping to the 90th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Muhammad at pick 112 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tacario Davis in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Harold Perkins Jr. went about where he belonged in the 136th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zxavian Harris in No. 150 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kaytron Allen in Round 5, Pick 12 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in the 177th overall pick, with Tanner Koziol worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Jeff Caldwell at slot 180, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
