Everything else got attention, and quarterback got none. That is a strange way for the Cowboys to leave a draft. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton at pick No. 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edgerrin Cooper in slot 56. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Caedan Wallace in pick 130, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaylin Simpson in the 174th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the 216th pick with a little surplus value in Tyrice Knight. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bub Means at No. 233 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Kendall Milton at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
