The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Patrick Paul, taking him 61 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
If Patrick Paul and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Zach Frazier at par in No. 56, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 87. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, McKinnley Jackson at the 174th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Kimani Vidal in the 216th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Frank Gore Jr. at pick 244, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
