Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Eagles to leave a draft. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Johnson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The cost of the Williams reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Javon Bullard at the 50th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in pick 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for James Williams in Round 5, Pick 25, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 171 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Decamerion Richardson at No. 172, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
