Green Bay Packers

Nobody dealt better than the Packers this weekend: B.

Future B-

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 70 spots for Solomon Byrd, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coker. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

It is not that Wallace is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 26
In the 26th pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 31
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Guyton at slot 41. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 65
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
A reach for Roger Rosengarten in Round 3, Pick 25; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 119
They reached a country mile for Cedric Gray at pick No. 93, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 91
A tidy little value on Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 95, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 151
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Trevin Wallace in No. 101 leaves running back and tight end for later.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 142
Kitan Oladapo in pick 109 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Beau Brade · S · rank 162
They talked themselves into Beau Brade at pick No. 143, and the board did not agree. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 172
Jordan Jefferson in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 189
A quiet steal in the 202nd pick: Curtis Jacobs for less than the market said. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Solomon Byrd · DE-EDGE · rank 289
A big swing on Solomon Byrd at Round 6, Pick 44, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jalen Coker · WR · rank 211
They barely believed it either: Jalen Coker still on the board at slot 245. It fills a real need, too.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 253
By-the-book stuff, Sam Hartman at the 255th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
