The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jalyx Hunt, the No. 128 name on the board, in the Round 5 slot. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The cost of the Leary reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 26th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Junior Colson at pick 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Brandon Coleman at No. 125 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Malik Mustapha at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jalyx Hunt at pick No. 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 27 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A straight-up fair deal on Jase McClellan at slot 219, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Devin Leary in the 245th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jacob Monk in pick No. 255, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
