The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Sam Hartman at No. 202 regardless, 53 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Christian Haynes in slot 58 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 25: Dadrion Taylor-Demerson for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cam Hart in No. 91, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Will Shipley slipping to pick No. 126 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Magee in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in No. 202, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nathan Thomas at the 219th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Owens at the 245th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They barely believed it either: Ryan Watts still on the board at pick No. 255. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
