The Commanders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 250 on Tyreem Powell a full 54 spots early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Bryant falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 2 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jordan Burch at the 61st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Elijah Arroyo at par in the 79th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Ozzy Trapilo higher than No. 104, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Logan Brown in pick No. 148; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cobee Bryant in pick 207, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on LaJohntay Wester in No. 238, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Tyreem Powell in the 250th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
