You build a draft on nights like this. Woody Marks had no business being available in the 238th overall pick, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Powell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Nick Emmanwori at the 29th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jordan Burch in Round 2, Pick 29 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Mason Taylor in pick 79; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Logan Brown at par in Round 5, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jordan Hancock at pick No. 207 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Woody Marks at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Tyreem Powell in slot 250 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
