You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent Round 4, Pick 26 on James Williams while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat unaddressed. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Hopper to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On value alone, Flournoy makes the weekend a net positive.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on T.J. Tampa in pick 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Calen Bullock in pick No. 88. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 26: James Williams adds a linebacker while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 169 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They liked Logan Lee enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 202. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A quiet steal in the 219th pick: Ryan Flournoy for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Rasheen Ali a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Owens at No. 255 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
