The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Michael Taaffe, the No. 71 name on the board, in the 92nd pick.
Kanak has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Sonny Styles at pick No. 12 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In slot 20 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value.
Michael Taaffe at No. 92 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tacario Davis at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Demmings at pick 152, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in Round 5, Pick 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Jeff Caldwell at the 180th pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaren Kanak. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
