Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jamari Thrash got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If Rosemy-Jacksaint pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Zak Zinter enough to skip the value, taking him in the 80th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Matt Goncalves at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in slot 115 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Jamari Thrash all the way to pick No. 124, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Edefuan Ulofoshio slid further than he should have, and No. 173 is lovely value for the linebacker. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Michael Barrett in Round 5, Pick 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Sheridan Jones in the 196th overall pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into David Ugwoegbu at pick No. 212, and the board did not agree. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Ja'Had Carter in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
