Nobody had Sam Hartman this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 40 spots to get him at the 219th pick.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The Barrett pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

So much rides on Taliese Fuaga that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 16
In the 16th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 54
Good price on Adisa Isaac in pick 58, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
They did well to land Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in No. 91, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Christian Mahogany at the 102nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · James Williams · LB · rank 124
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at slot 118 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 136
Jarrian Jones at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
A conviction pick on Ty'Ron Hopper at the 169th pick that the board grades a round light. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 188
Tanor Bortolini at Round 6, Pick 4 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 201
They took Kendall Milton at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 259
They talked themselves into Sam Hartman at No. 219, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 235
Michael Barrett at slot 245 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 254
Tyler Owens at the 255th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
