The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Thor Griffith went at slot 250, a good 44 picks before the board was ready. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Mondon Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Jordan Burch in the 61st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Elijah Arroyo in slot 79; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 148, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
DJ Giddens in No. 207 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Kaden Prather at the 238th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
