Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ollie Gordon II got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at pick 238. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Martin proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
A tidy little value on Alfred Collins in No. 61, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A running back of that caliber at slot 79 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Hollin Pierce in the 148th pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Cobee Bryant was still sitting there in pick No. 207, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at Round 7, Pick 20 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nick Martin in pick 250 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
