The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Trey Moore, 90 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Cowboys indulged a want in Moore while a need in quarterback and running back stayed open. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
However the rest shakes out, Bisontis at that price is a win they earned. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 29 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 74th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaishawn Barham this early at pick No. 87. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 90th overall pick on Trey Moore with quarterback and running back unsolved.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jake Golday at edge rusher with quarterback and running back open.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Chase Bisontis in No. 112, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zxavian Harris in the 152nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Dae'Quan Wright at the 177th pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ephesians Prysock at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Chase Roberts went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
