New York Jets

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Jets and Klare: B+.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Jets, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

That Klare pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · David Bailey · LB-EDGE · rank 5
They took David Bailey at par in the 2nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
In No. 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Denzel Boston · WR · rank 30
Nothing to complain about; Denzel Boston went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 41
A tidy little value on Caleb Banks in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
Value with a capital V on Jake Slaughter in Round 3, Pick 6, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 85
They barely believed it either: Zakee Wheatley still on the board at pick 103. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Max Klare · TE · rank 78
Max Klare at Round 4, Pick 7 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 133
A clean, defensible pick in the 140th overall pick with a little surplus value in Harold Perkins Jr.. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Bryce Boettcher · LB · rank 172
Bryce Boettcher at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Chase Roberts · WR · rank 213
A tidy bit of business in the 228th pick, where Chase Roberts graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 224
Zavion Thomas in slot 242 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
