The Bears' one glaring miss is running back, a need they left exactly as they found it.
The cost of the Young reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Fair-plus on A.J. Haulcy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach on Malachi Lawrence in the 60th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Bryce Lance at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kaleb Proctor in No. 129 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Keagen Trost in pick No. 191 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Andre Fuller at pick 239 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach for Bryce Foster in the 241st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
