The Vikings spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jermod McCoy, the No. 17 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In the end it comes back to Jeremiyah Love, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.20
· Pick 20
· Jeremiyah Love
· RB
· rank 2
In slot 20 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot.
R2.17
· Pick 49
· Sonny Styles
· LB
· rank 20
Sonny Styles at Round 2, Pick 17 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.18
· Pick 82
· Mansoor Delane
· CB
· rank 8
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mansoor Delane in pick 82, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.28
· Pick 92
· Kayden McDonald
· DT
· rank 19
Steal is underselling it; Kayden McDonald at the 92nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
R3.33
· Pick 97
· Dillon Thieneman
· S
· rank 35
You do not let a safety like Dillon Thieneman reach No. 97 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.12
· Pick 112
· Spencer Fano
· OT
· rank 9
They barely believed it either: Spencer Fano still on the board at the 112th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.23
· Pick 163
· Jake Slaughter
· C
· rank 55
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 163 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.15
· Pick 196
· Michael Taaffe
· S
· rank 68
Somehow Michael Taaffe was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.2
· Pick 218
· Kenyon Sadiq
· TE
· rank 18
Circle this one: Kenyon Sadiq at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.18
· Pick 234
· Jermod McCoy
· CB
· rank 17
The board fumbled Jermod McCoy all the way to Round 7, Pick 18, and they scooped it up. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.19
· Pick 235
· Taylen Green
· QB
· rank 188
Taking Taylen Green in pick 235 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.28
· Pick 244
· Ja'Kobi Lane
· WR
· rank 98
Ja'Kobi Lane at pick No. 244 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
