When a board-topper like Ozzy Trapilo slides to Round 5, Pick 9, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Martin pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a downhill hitter at safety, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Value with a capital V on Isaiah Bond in No. 69, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 15 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Mason Taylor in the 105th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ollie Gordon II in the 207th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
LaJohntay Wester in pick 238 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Nick Martin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
