Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Skyler Bell got past him. The Bengals do not have to explain a thing at the 110th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Johnson in Round 2, Pick 9. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Lee Hunter in pick No. 72, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Skyler Bell still on the board at No. 110. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kobe Baynes in the 189th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Aaron Anderson in pick 199 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
