You build a draft on nights like this. Zavion Thomas had no business being available in slot 243, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Dunker lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Denzel Boston in the 28th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Gennings Dunker in pick 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Lee Hunter in Round 2, Pick 27, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jake Golday at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Michael Trigg in No. 106; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaytron Allen at the 141st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cyrus Allen in slot 167 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Zavion Thomas all the way to pick No. 243, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
