The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named running back, a need the 49ers walked right past. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Daniels pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Halton. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Good price on Gennings Dunker in No. 59, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on CJ Daniels at slot 127, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in pick No. 133: Bishop Fitzgerald for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Dametrious Crownover at the 138th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Joe Royer at the 139th pick is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Gracen Halton was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
